I first heard of her a few months ago, and listened to her Ultimate Connection, which is primarily Incan remnants. The songs all have names like &#8220;Virgin of the Sun God&#8221; or &#8220;Xtabay (Lure of the Unknown Love).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sumac&#8217;s songs are filled with exotic percussion, strings, horns, and lilting flutes; all of which flow around her voice, giving it a contrasting backdrop&mdash;whether she&#8217;s trilling a high pitched melodic strain or growl-chanting what sounds like a heathen invocation. Her range is awe-inspiring, her music is beautiful, and I&#8217;m sad she&#8217;s dead.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What a shame.
